The Dornier DO-27 is a further development of the DO-25. Changes were made to the wing and the vertical stabilizer, among other things. The fuel tanks, previously designed as external tanks, were integrated into the wings and a Lycoming GO-480-B1A6 was installed as the engine. The significantly heavier unit and the resulting change in the center of gravity made it necessary to relocate and strengthen the chassis. After the construction of a rupture cell for load tests, the production of a prototype began in autumn 1955, which finally took off on October 17, 1956 for the first time. The Bundeswehr was one of the largest buyers and received the first series aircraft on January 14, 1957, which was handed over to Army Aviation Squadron 811 in Niedermendig. The Dornier Do-27 was thus the first German powered aircraft to be mass-produced after the Second World War.

The low-speed flight characteristics are fantastic and do not pose any great difficulties for budding pilots. In addition, the eye-catching paintwork offers good visibility in the air, which makes it much easier to identify the general position of the model.
